Palmetto Strings
Community Based Groups

The following are groups which give players, young and mature, opportunities to play with others.

University of South Carolina String Project teaches Students 8 and above to play orchestral stringed instruments in a pleasant setting, at a reasonable price. This also gives upper-level students at the University experience in teaching and conducting.  There are several levels of Adult Student classes as well.

Columbia Community Orchestra, founded at Benedict College in the early 2000s, this orchestra has been labeled by the American Orchestra League as the most diverse orchestra in the U.S. David Ezell, Composer and retired public school orchestra teacher, is the Artistic Director, and conducts during the season, as do Principal Conductor Alejandro Salgado, and several others. No audition is required.
Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra is a near-professional community orchestra, primarily serving the Irmo and Lexington areas. Founded in 2006 by a small group of players, this group usually requires an audition for membership.

Palmetto Chamber Orchestra is a professional-level community orchestra under the baton of Artistic Director and Founder, Suzanna Pavlovsky. Audition required.
